Welcome to Ross
Population 2,442 approximate
Ross is one of the most prestigious places to reside in Marin. Ross is a town of about 800 homes and is located just 25 minutes from the Golden Gate bridge and San Francisco Shaded roads and lanes enhance this lovely town of large estates and luxury custom homes.
Larger properties are in park like settings, many which have tennis courts and swimming pools. The Marin Art & Garden Center, a Ten acre site in Ross, offers many classes and activities. It is also a beautiful setting for weddings and private parties. Trees, ponds and gardens make the grounds a delightful place to visit, while the many non-profit and artistic groups based here have made this the cultural center of the Ross Valley.
The quaint downtown area is centered around Ross Common, which provides a pleasant park and gathering area for the town’s residents. Like much of Marin, Ross was originally part of an 1840 Spanish land grant. The land was later purchased by a San Francisco wine merchant in 1857 and developed beginning in the 1870’s when San Franciscans discovered the beautiful Ross Valley and began building summer homes here.
The school scores for the Ross Elementary School ranked in the 99th percentile, the highest possible state wide ranking any school can achieve. The Branson School, a well known private school, is also located in the town. The College of Marin Community College is located just one mile away in nearby Kentfield.
Year after year, Ross is ranked low in crime by The California Crime Index. Fortune Magazine has named Ross as one of the wealthiest communities in United States.
