Welcome to the Tiburon Peninsula, a sought after seaside town only a short ferry ride from Downtown San Francisco
From Tiburon’s downtown Main Street follow Paradise Drive along the waterfront to Old Town Tiburon’s long forgotten past

Lyford Tower, the first Historical Landmark, was once the entrance to one of the first homes in Lyford Cove …

Now known as 34 Linda Vista...

Tiburon’s miniature Castle is revealed!

The charming private gate leads you to this captivating Castle from the past, renovated , restored , and updated over the years, combining today’s modern amenities while keeping the main level structure as close to its original state.

The Castle was designed by San Francisco architect Gustav Behrnd in the late 1800’s, built with solid concrete over massive rock and boulders. The castle included trap doors, hidden passageways and tunnels which still exist today. Mr. Behrnd also designed the Lyford Tower , originally built with an archway leading to his Castle on the waterfront hillside.  History records shows Mr.Lyford sold the property to Behrnd for ten dollars with a deed on record dating back to 1901.

The castle was abandoned before completion due to a lack of funds.Over the early years of the 1900’s it was gradually buried in dirt and debris from the hillside and in approximately 1925  re-discovered by a Mr. Jack Lowe , who was responsible for the first renovation.

Over the years a second story was added , in addition to many other improvements.

Upon entering this magical property you are immediately taken back to the past.
A formal entry leads to the stately living room , with focal points including the centered  wood burning fireplace ,  parapet view windows, barreled ceiling, hardwood flooring,  and the approximate 2’ thick concrete walls throughout the main level are a statement to the quality of this unique property.

The formal dining room off of the living room exudes charm offering a wonderful area to entertain your guests.  Under the hardwood flooring one of the original trap doors said to have been a hiding place for alcohol and other mystery items back in the day.    Earlier notes show this room as a main bedroom from the original design.

Off of the main living room is a bonus room , ideal for an office or family room .

The newly remodeled kitchen brings you all of your modern amenities ; ‘Quartz’ slab countertops,  refaced cabinetry in a rustic Pine, tile flooring,  Stainless steel appliances which include a GE dishwasher,  Kitchen Aid 5 burner gas cook top, Kitchen Aid oven and microwave convection oven , Double door Kitchen Aid refrigerator with freezer below.

The tastefully remodeled powder bath is also located on the main level.

The castle like doorway leads to a sunny private patio deck ,a magical place to entertain your family and friends overlooking the Bay, Angel Island and Golden Gate Bridge. Renovated and updated over many years this special property offers a functional floorplan appealing to all lifestyles.

The second level connected by a wide inviting stairway includes four bedrooms:
The oversized first bedroom offers unsurpassed views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay, and Angel Island.
The second bedroom  has a walk in closet and French doors opening to the expansive view terrace.
The third bedroom , an ideal home office with wide plank hardwood flooring , custom built in cabinetry and shelving, and carefully designed window seating.  French doors lead to a private sunny deck and ample storage or exercise room.
The fourth bedroom and Master suite offers world class panoramic views from the East Bay, Angel Island, Raccoon Straights, across the Bay spanning the Golden Gate Bridge and Belvedere Island.  The master offers access to the spectacular terrace , an inviting place for relaxation and lounging while taking in the spectacular views.
The remodeled guest bath offers an artistic flair with painted built in cabinetry, a rustic style vanity, and a tub shower combination.

This carefully chosen site offers meandering stone walkways , lush level lawn, and a perfect blend of mature landscape.

This hidden castle is idyllically situated in what was the first subdivision of Tiburon,  Lyford Hygeia ,which means “goddess of health’ , named by the infamous early settler Benjamin Lyford .
This property is a perfect blend of historic character combined with all of today’s amenities.  Truly one of a kind.
